Unexpectedly high volume of calls

If every time I ring the volume of calls is genuinely unexpectedly high then the increase in call volumes must be exponential. They must literally be dealing with billions of calls by now.

Big fibbers!

Don't forget "your call is important to them" and you are no doubt "a valued customer" so the wait will be well worth is in the end.

If our calls were that important to them, then why don't they employ more people to answer the phones?

Oh, right, I forgot, that would affect profits, which would affect management bonuses and shareholders' dividends - and we couldn't have that now, could we?

    Or....

They’d have to pass that additional overhead to you, the customer....

At Least your call of complaint about said price rise would be answered immediately.
