Automatic Older Cars

I'm planning to buy a smallish automatic car in the next month. There are some are want to avoid because the automatic box have a poor reputation.

Can anyone recommend a car / model with a good automatic box. Looking for something from maybe 07 upwards.

It's just for one person and one dog!

They stopped making my car in 2005, but it's a VW and have had no problems with the automatic gearbox at all, although it's done only 70k miles. The problems I thought were the gearbox were actually due to malfunctioning engine sensors

Just try and find one with a proper torque converter gearbox.

II'd add those little Citroens, Peugeots and Toyotas to that, the ones that are all basically the same car with a different badge on that use an electronically controlled manual box as an auto.

I second that. Traditional torque converter autoboxes are unlikely to give trouble, and if they do they are easy to fix. Avoid automated manual (electro-magnetic clutch) boxes as fitted to some small European models. The Hyundai i10 and KIA Picanto are small cars with a good reputation for reliability and the automatics are fitted with torque converter 'boxes.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
