HP Envy 360 - very noisy

Does anyone have any tips for making a laptop quieter?
My HP Envy 360's fan constantly runs when it's plugged in. Is that normal?
On battery it can be silent sometimes, but can also sound like a jet engine taking off, but it's when it's plugged in that it is annoying me most. It just never stops.

overheating? Fluff etc in the innards
Take back off and clean especially around fan0 -
Sorry, should have said, it's only three months old and hasn't been anywhere but on a desk.
I'd go back to the retailer I bought it from but can't really be without it. I wanted to know if there's a setting that could be making it overwork,0 -
Noisy fans do seem to be fairly common with HP.0

My most recent HP was really noisy with the fan seemingly running more than seemed normal. Are you running anything intensive like video/rendering etc?
I wouldn't recommend my solution which was to accidentally pour tea over it... the Dell replacement is pretty silent though.0 -
Change your powerplan for on charge , and don't select "for performance" see if that makes a difference. I will be able to check the exact bits when my Windows 10 Preview finishes it update (about 10 mins) I am currently using Linux on this PC and doing lots of transcoding4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . No, just browsing websites. Or editing photos. Or using Word.debitcardmayhem wrote: »Change your powerplan for on charge , and don't select "for performance" see if that makes a difference. Where do I find the plan for on charge? I've read about people changing the 'processor power management' but don't know what to change it to.0 -

then
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options
Then Balanced , edit plan settings
Change advanced settings you can always then go back and reset to default. Has the PC got a discrete Graphics Card?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy

Check CPU usage. If its sitting at 100% then chances are something is running thats causing the CPU to run hot. Google Win 10 100% CPU usage for things to do to resolve that.
If its not that, then I've an HP Envy 13 i7 that did similar. I changed the processor state settings in Power Usage - specifically minimum processor state and maximum processor state to 5% and 60% respectively for both on battery and plugged in. I also changed system cooling policy to active.
Quiet as a church mouse now.

The CPU is always fine.
I have changed the processor states to what's been suggested. Hopefully it'll be a bit quieter!
Thanks.
*edited to say it's definitely quieter :T0
