Do I need to use my virgin phone service?

I'm thinking of getting Virgin Media.
I only want the TV, but to do this without their phone i've been told I can only take the XL package for £25/month.
But for £11/month I can have their TV and phone package on size M. As long as i pay the bill is there any problem with me not using the phone at all ? Or do i have to have some kind of minimum usage?
Also, I guess i'd be given a new number as i want to keep my current number on my BT line ?
Thanks

There is no minimum usage .
You MAY be able to transfer your number to BT as I know you can transfer a BT number to VM .0 -
Virgin Media do try and push the phone service, hence when signing up online to more or less forces you to have the phone line, this is due to up until the last results cable were losing 40,000+ phone customers per quarter, because of them being the dearest provider, this quarter they've been able to stem the losses by giving those who called up to dump the phone line it free or discounted.
Over the phone you can just take the TV, but it's slightly dearer than if you had the phone line.
For £11 (£10.50 if eBilling) you can also get 'Free TV' which is basically most of Freeview with a couple of extra channels and access to catch-up TV VOD.
You don't have to make any calls or chargeable calls on your cable line, so it will simply be the £11 (£10.50) / month.
Installation is £25 no matter how many services you have, but sign up online and you get a £10 discount for each service.
So with phone line and 'free' TV you get a £20 discount, so install for £5.
If you want to keep your BT line, then yes you'll get another number, if you want to dump the BT line and transfer your number to cable, then that you can do, that's porting your number.
At the moment they have an offer on the 3 for £30.

So for £30 you get
Phone Line (M - Inclusive weekend calls to 01/02/03 numbers)
Broadband (M - 2Mbit - unlike ADSL speed doesn't alter due to distance).
and TV - upgraded to XL package for 12 months. (XL gives also TV-Choice on Demand, Music on Demand and Setanta).
Sign up online and you'll get £30 back, so they pay you £5 to install it.
Note: Virgin Media charge £5 per month if you don't pay by Direct Debit. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
