Cater allen clarity

Options
I've had several argument with cater allen about this:
When you want to send money to someone else that asks you to enter a "Payment Date"
When you hit the button to make the payment, this messages comes up
"Your payment has been confirmed. Future dated transfers will take place subject to sufficient funds being available in the sending account on the day of the transfer. You may wish to print this page for your records.

Payments will be debited from your account and credited to the receiving account the next working day after the date of the payment." (My bold italics)

What this actually means :
"Thanks for telling us the date you want to make the payment. Under no circumstances whatsoever will payment actually be made on the payment date. Payment will be made from between one and 5 days after the payment date"

My question is am I being unreasonable in thinking that if they ask you for a payment date, then that is the date the payment should be made, or is this all perfectly OK because they put up this weaselly worded excuse?

Thanks

David

It's probably time for you to make use of this guide and switch.
  • If you make a payment on a working day, a payment should go out that day, If you make a payment on non working day, it might go out on the next working day. Sometimes, payments are held for security or fraud checking purposes, which could take a few days.

This is the same for every bank - none guarantee same day payment regardless of circumstances. If you think their excuse is "weaselly worded", why are you even with them?

The date you specify is the date that they commence the payment. Because they are not full members of the Faster Payments System they have to use an intermediary, and their process is probably that the payment gets sent to the intermediary overnight and they send it on to the destination the next day. As you know the timescale the simple solution is to select the date before the day you want the payment to arrive. Or as suggested, switch to a bank that will normally make same day payments.
