Hi,
I am restricted to purchase my home insurance policy to Zurich, as there is a convenant on the property. I am able to purchase a policy by Zurich or any policies underwritten by them. I would like to know the list of companies which are underwritten by Zurich Insurance Limited so that I can compare the price?
Regards

You will be able to get this covenant sorted now as they have stopped doing home insurance0

Indeed, clearly it's impossible for you to meet the terms of the covenant

so ask your conveyancer about whether you should seek to have it discharged, or whether you can just ignore it.
I'm mildly intrigued as to why you'd have a covenant restricting you to a particular insurance provider as it's not something I've come across before. Is there a good reason for it (eg is it easier to deal with a fire in a block of flats if all the flats have the same insurer), or is it the result of an agreement between the insurer and the developer? The latter would strike me as rather sharp practice.0 -
Sorry for the late reply, I do not appear to have received any notifications from the replies from this thread.
Thanks for advice, did not realise that Zurich stopped offering home insurance policies. I receive this from Compton Group every year, last year their block policy was by NIG, which is underwritten by RBS Group. I purchased an insurance policy from Direct Line lasy year as that was underwritten by RBS Group, which Compton Group accepted.
I belive that they probably have used Zurich this year to force property owners to purchase their block policy underwritten by Zurch as porperty owners were obtaining their own home insurance.
I am not sure to the reason why there is a covenant on the property, it is not a flat, just a end terrace house. As you say it could possibly be to do with agreement between the insurer and the developer back in the 1930s.
I have just searched the forum, and others have experienced the same issue from Compton Group (forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5970079&highlight=zurich+home+insurance).
In the meantime I will ask a conveyancer about whether I could seek to have it discharged, or whether I can just ignore it. In the past the cost of the block policy obtained by Crompton group has usually been twice the cost of the cheapest one found on a price comparison website.
If you have any more advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Zurich are still offering quotes for home insurance through brokers. Maybe contact a local broker to you and see what they say before engaging a solicitor. It may be cheap enough that you're happy to pay it just for convenience.Lloyds broker working in Private Clients and Property Owners.
Looking to help and be helped.0 -
Did you get to the bottom of this?
I have just had the same letter from Compton Group but can't get a quote from Zurich & can't find anything which tells me which companies are underwritten by Zurich.
Thanks0
