Length of time between offer and survey....excessive?

Hi, we had an offer made on our house which we accepted. It will be soon be 3 weeks since we agreed this and there is still no sign of a survey or valuation being booked, despite us contacting the estate agent. Is this overlong, or are we worrying unnecessarily?

Thanks for your opinion, carrot007. That's why I'm asking. I want to be realistic in my expectations, but also want to know how long is too long- it's obviously been taken off the market so if the buyers are not serious I want to know!

A good EA should be keeping you informed. Mortgage applications can take time. Not least that booking a convenient appointment in itself can prove a challenge.
  • This isn't overly long and you are worrying unnecessarily. Some good surveyors have a 6-week waiting list. It could be your buyer has requested a survey be carried out and they're waiting for it to be done (or they're waiting on their prospective lender to arrange one). We accepted an offer on my MIL's house in early Nov'18 and it was finally carried out in Jan'19.

See if they've paid for searches yet. Although they may want to do the survey first. Some lenders will have to be booked in a couple of weeks ahead, especially if they want a weekend appointment. Could be a couple of weeks after that before the surveyor can get there.

No harm in getting an update to see where they are, do they have an idea about the survey date to ensure you have the day off from work or something.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe we are worrying too much. I would just feel happier if we had had some contact from the surveyors (even if the survey was to take place in a few weeks time, I would like it to be booked). Perhaps the next step is to see if they have paid for their searches. Thanks for your thoughts.
