Cataract surgery

Hi.
My husband has been told had cataracts, both eyes.
He is now unable to drive, read, or lead a normal life.
Waiting times on the nhs Scotland vary, therefore looking at going private, even although it goes against the grain.
Despite spending ages checking online, still none the wiser about practioners.
Any recommendations .. Who did you use

The Nuffield in Glasgow are good, I'd avoid high street opticians at all costs.0

Has your GP not done a referral for you or given you the details of appropriate surgeons? I've had two surgeries done privately in the last two years and on both occasions I consulted my GP first who recommended local surgeons for both procedures. All I had to do was to check they were on my insurer's approved list and I was all set to go - and both surgeons were excellent!0

NHS consultants normally do both its common for them to give there card out in consultation, many even do so with the same nurses in the NHS hospital!.
I'm only 42 and had a Traumatic Cataract done on the NHS, I was told wait would be 3 months appointment came in within the month, Going private does allow you to have a vari focal lens put in which are supposed to be better.... However cost of surgery for me would have been about £4k BUT Iv had 2 subsequent operations due to the complexity (first undiagnosed) and god knows how many consultations so the final bill would have probably closer to 20k...
Personally id wait, Iv had hrs of waiting around at eye clinics and have had to spend time waiting for appointments which as frustrating as that can be with a business to run and a family to bring up the level of care with the NHS has been excellent.0 -
Referal been made by optician, with copy to GP. No recommendation.
Waiting lists long, therefore reason for asking for info 're private.
We would be paying ourselves, no health insurance.0 -
Thanks Glaswejen, I had looked at them but decided against them.0

Thank you Snowcat 75. Worth keeping in mind.0

I had implant lenses by Optimax in 2005.
Not exactly the same procedure, but similar. I'm sure they did cataract procedures, too!
Best £5k I've ever spent! From a prescription of - 11.5 to -0.25!0 -

Thinking about it getting the initial consultation can be quite lengthy, by the time mine came in I was blind in one eye, GP can refer but can be as slow... I would though try and see the eye clinic as (A) your be able to ask the consultant about private (B) encase there is a further problem. It was about this time last year the GP referred me but within that time Iv had a lot of work done....I'm awaiting the final surgery to remove some of the deformation of the eye in and out in 20 mins ... but even though a year seems a long while it has been and gone quickly.0 -

I worked with a surgeon when I lived in Glasgow and he practiced out the Nuff, I'm not sure if he still does. There's also Rosshall, I know the scrub nurse there and she's proper old school matron for a clean unit so I'd imagine the doctors are good too0 -
My dad got his done at Optical Express in Glasgow, 2 days 2 new lenses, no problems, perfect vision.0
