Capital One fee-free Con?

I applied as per Martin's recommendation for a Capital One 0% fee-free "Balance Transfer Card". Credit rating "excellent". Application was declined but "you have been pre-approved for an alternative Capital One credit card". Surprise surprise the alternative has a 3% fee. Strenuous denials by the Capital One applications dept that this is a con to use the inertia factor to get applicants to sign up for the more expensive card. I find these hard to believe. What has been the experience of other forum readers?

I applied for Capital One 0% card (excellent rating) a couple of months ago & my application was approved. However, the balance transfer fee was 1.9% not nil. Are Capital One the first company to reintroduce fee free BTs?0 -
Exactly the same here (i.e. offered the 3% alternative), can only add that today I received the sign-up form a third time and the shredder has taken care of them all.:T:j :TMFiT-T2 No.120|Challenge started 12.12.09|MFD 12.12.12 :j:T:j0

I applied last month for the fee free BT card and got it succesfully.

I also applied last month for the fee free BT card & now £6700 is sitting in my stooze POT, got to admit though this is the lowest credit limit I've got on any card.0
