Bank charge reclaiming

I've read the guidance bit but need somebody to clarify if possible?
I have calculated bank charges over last 6 years and sent letter to bank (Barclays0 asking for my money back with interest. I know there's a test-case coming up and that martin's guide says carry on as normal BUT then he says the Financial Ombudsman isn't taking on any new cases. Sooooo am I right to assume there's absolutely nothing I can do IF I do not wish to go 'courts' route and that writing to the Ombudsman would be waste of time?
Thanks
