I defend the rights of landlowners to conduct business on their terms, but in a honest way...

None of us would deny that ...... but they let PPC's take over who in turn practice dishonesty.
One of the reasons landowners kick out PPC's

So, unless the landowner is a crook, it is their lack of understanding and not doing their homework

When a the interests of a parking company lie in the failure of the motorist to comply with the terms and conditions there is always going to be an issue. Their business plans are based around parking charges and staff are targeted.

There is a car park near to station that I sometimes use. Its on part of a homeowner's garden. There is a telephone box where you obtain an envelope and write your reg no on the envelope. Put in the £4.00 and seal it and post in a post box. No machines, no ANPR or PPC.

The car park at Rugeley Trent Valley Station is very small for a main line station car park so an enterprising house owner has converted their garden into a car park. £4.00 per day is reasonable for parking near a mainline station that serves trains to London and Birmingham and links to the NW. The only conditions are that you put £4.00 in the post box and that you don't park in the area reserved for the homeowner's cars.

Well no, this is often on this forum, we win in court in MSA well-defended cases (I can never remember one lost) and this guy shared your view and he's a switched-on person who also had no idea:

agreed, he had the right idea and they should be free as a safety issue like on the continent

I have no idea where this stupid 2 hour limit came from, but if any limit was in force it should be at least 8 hours, to allow people to sleep like that barrister in the link above (plus the OP of this thread)

MSAs should absolutely be free, all the time. I worked in an MSA between semesters at uni, and the amount of people who would come in to park because they met other people and went off in one car were pretty low. Maybe two or three a week. You used to get a lot of lorry drivers park up and stay overnight. There would be a lot of those guys, but I understood from talking to them that this was paid for by their employer.

With the general parking, I have to admit, I will willingly pay all of my council PCNs. I'm usually in the wrong there, and have only ever once appealed one (which was successful, unclear signage) but I don't find the cost so awful (usually about £25). I would rather give the council my money in whatever guise, than a PPC. (I promise I don't get many!).

I agree with the entry/exit barriers. I prefer to park in one where I can park in this way so I don't have to rush back within a timescale. I would mind a PPC even less where they weren't deliberately trying to mislead people, use ambiguous signage (whether conspicuous in its absence or wording), bully people into thinking they had a real debt, masquerading as real PCNs, try to very clearly play the system (including failing to use provisions given expressly for them, like POFA) and generally add absolutely nothing to society - for every employer's NI/apprentice levy/business rates etc that they pay, they waste the court's time, and breed bad feeling in customers. I am a lot more selective in where I am prepared to park now (i.e. nowhere where there in ANPR, and avoid PPC run car parks wherever I can).

The directors of these PPC's could make a decent living without fleecing the motorist. IMHO they are parasites feeding off spurious claims. It almost like a protection racket. Pay up or we will continue to harass you and ultimately take you to court. Threats about what could happen if you receive a CCJ.

The the likes of S.R.S. and his ilk and are paying themselves huge salaries and dividends for demanding money with menaces. I can't believe that this sort of thing is being allowed to happen in this day and age.
