Life/Critical Illness Insurance & Mental Health

Hello, first timer here, so please be gentle, as I'm desperately in need of advice.
My wife and I are in the process of buying our first house and have been advised to take out life/critical illness cover as we have two young children.
Unfortunately we have both in the past had issues with our mental health and we both continue to take medication to this day to manage it.
My wife hasn't had any issues for a long time with her mental health and my last relapse was nearing 3yrs ago.
Due to us having had these issues all the insurers we have looked at refuse us any cover immediately.
AIG did at least request a medical report from our GP but then still refused us cover.
Is anyone able to offer any advice as to where we could possibly turn to next? As we are feeling somewhat judged and discriminated against, but more importantly concerned for the wellbeing of our children should either of us become ill.

I had the same and went uninsured for a year and applied again. Legal & Genral then took me on after previously refusing at a much higher monthly payment than my husband.0 -

You are being discriminated against based on past circumstances but unfortunately that's how insurance works.
You really need the help of a broker who specialises in finding cover for clients with pre-existing issues. One thing which would then help is if you were to obtain a copy of the GP report which AIG requested (your surgery should keep a copy on file for 6-months). Providing this to a broker would then allow them to forward it on to various insurers who would assess the info and advise whether terms are possible.
Doing this would be far less time consuming than just randomly picking companies to apply to and would also give you an indication of cost before a full application was submitted.0 -
