If you live near a Metro Bank branch you can walk in and come out with a debit card that gives you fee-free ATM withdrawals in Europe (I'm taking a wild stab that it includes Switzerland).

Yes it does - here's the list from Metrobank's site

Where you can use your card for free

When we refer to Europe we regard the countries which are part of the Single European Payments Area (SEPA).
    • 19 EU Euro countries - Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain
    • 9 EU non-Euro countries - Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Sweden, United Kingdom
    • 2 non-EU, Euro countries – Monaco, San Marino
    • 4 non-EU, non-Euro countries - Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland

If you want to get some local currency before you go, you can use msa's travel money maximiser, theres a to it under 'Travel & Motoring'

You can tell it how short notice you need it, your post code etc. And it'll tell you where to get the best deal for pick up near you or home delivery.

Jeez I’m such a novice just realised they still use Swiss franc!! Guess they won’t have that at the post office anyway.

Swiss Franc is a major currency and I would expect any Post Office branch of a decent size to carry it. However, as others have pointed out, changing money at the Post Office is a bad idea.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
