Have you tried the Update troubleshooter? Here's a link try that and see if it gets you anywhere. If not let us know.

If you get nowhere with the troubleshooter then take a look at the link below

  • Windows update sometimes gets itself in a tangle. The fix is to clear the downloaded files and let it run the download/update again.

I’m nowhere near home so can’t give you the link, only on my iPhone. I’m sure a search will point you in the right direction though.

    Nothing wrong with 1703 :)

1% genuine update and 99% junk and fixes to make it even harder to disable updates it seems.

Too many bug reports for 1809, they stop the rollout to fix them. Intel driver issue a few weeks back.

Okay thanks for the info. Will take another look at this and what I can fined. I can understand your frustration and 5 hours is a nonsense. Shouldn't be much more than 1 hour download and install. I have had a few machines on nearly 2 hours though. MS seem to have these issues time and time again., though 1809 is pretty stable.

To test things out I have just done a 1511 to 1809 update and there were no issues whatsoever, less than an hour. So it's either an 1803 to 1809 issue or could be 1803 to 1809 with an E5-575 issue thrown in or an issue with previous updates on your system. Whatever we will find the resolution.
