Hi all, I ask for some advice,
Back in the early 2000's I was young and irresponsible and defaulted (Basically ran away) on a number of credit cards and a Bank Loan as I was living overseas. Now I know the debt for the bank loan was sold on to a debt reclaim company and the bank account closed by the bank (HSBC), but I was living outside of the country until 2007ish and the time passed, i had no contact, did not acknowledge any debt etc etc and my Credit file is now clean. What I am asking is can I claim for the PPI on that loan and i think it was 3 credit cards that I had at the time with no recompense that it wont open a can of worms and reactivate the debt on me etc?

You can't claim on the policy as it's no longer in force.
You could make a mis selling complaint. If successful, any redress will go towards any unpaid balance.0 -

It would unlikely open a can of worms on the historic debts but it may introduce complications if you happen to use one of those lenders now and they haven't linked you with your old history. However, lenders are allowed to set off the redress paid on upheld complaints against unpaid debts.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Leave it alone, any redress would be offset against old debts and as suggested could lead to bigger problems if they handy correctly linked your records before.0

No I do not use any of those lenders or have any loans etc now, I have had one that I took out in 2012 with Nationwide and paid off entirely though would that have a possibility of a claim?0

If you took out in 2012 then I would suggest that it doesn’t have PPI as most lenders stop selling PPI around 2010 - those that did continue would have plenty of paperwork all of which would be very clear and signed by you stating you wanted PPI and understood what it was.0

thought as much thanks0
