Anyone Work For The Housing Department? Need Advice!

Also, I think the fact that you have an adequately adapted bathroom and toilet on the ground floor will go against you because they can request that you just sleep downstairs instead. As far as the council are concerned, living rooms and dining rooms are considered to be rooms which can be used for sleeping accomodation.
This would also satisfy the "extra room" request for your OH to sleep alone due to being disturbed by you during the night.
Having said that, all councils/HA's seem to have different rules so you may be lucky with yours but just wanted to let you know what the general rules are so you don't get your hopes built up too much and be terribly disappointed if they turn you down.
Good luck!
The bathroom is upstairs with no toilet and the toilet is downstairs with no washing facilities or even sink to wash hands. There is also a gas fire in the lounge and we have no dining room and have been told already that the lounge is not accepted as a sleeping area each night.
The work was done via a DFG last year and cost approx 15k, we did not have to contribute.
I will just fill in the forms the best I can and see what happens.
We are lucky as we love our home and we have done loads of work to it, so if nothing comes up, we will make do and muddle on as we have been doing. Our other option would be to exchange but will try this route first.
Thanks for all the replies.

 Sorry PenPin but I'd complain about that. Is it legal in Council housing?

HB-Thanks for the reply! Is that ilegal then? I keep wet wipes in the toilet and use them for hands or we have to go into the kitchen and wash them in the kitchen sink.

I've had a quick google and can only find stuff on the law in Scotland but it seems that if it's not a legal requirment to have hand washing facilities in your wc it is certainly recommended and using the kitchen sink is not seen as confirming to the "tolerable standard" (sorry I've lost the link) It is illegal for public toilets to have no hand washing facilities and AFAIK the same applies to private landlords.
I personally would have concerns about hygene (particularly if you suffer from a condition where your immune system is compromised);) and I'd be bringing this to the attention of your housing officer asap.0 -

No Problem!
TBH though if I were you I'd ask them to put in a loo upstairs for you. Maybe replace the bath with a shower to make room for a loo. This would mean you wouldn't be keeping OH awake with the stairlift and you wouldn't have to leave your house. I know from looking at the kitchen thread that you must have spent alot of money on the place and it would be a shame to leave it.

Hi
We dont have a bath upstairs only a small wet room with shower-there is not enough space for a toilet according to health and safety as a wheelchair has to fit in there on bad days.
Thanks again.

Oh I see. If the downstairs loo has to fit a wheelchair too then they should definitely fit a sink for you as there should be room.
It must be so restricting. Do you have to keep a wheelchair upstairs and downstairs then?0 -
