Sports Direct - incorrect size boots sent

We purchased some football boots from Sports Direct for my son and they have sent the wrong size. We ordered a size 2 and they sent a size 3, they have admitted the error and are happy to refund my money. However, they will only refund the money when they receive the boots back and they will only refund to the way they were purchased which was through a voucher.

The issue is my son needs the boots now as his old ones no longer fit so I want to get replacement ones now rather than wait the 14 days once they receive the incorrect ones back. Do I have any rights to insist on a cash reimbursement rather than a Sports Direct voucher as I have not intention on buying anything from Sports Direct again given the service they have given me in trying to resolve this.

Thanks

Buy the correct size now, keep the larger ones for 6 weeks time when he needs them :)
  • Thanks for the responses

What rights do I have then?
They have the same boots in a different colour available do I have any right to ask them to send them instead of a refund?

You can certainly ask although they have no obligation to fulfil that request. The alternative is to return, get the voucher and simply order the different coloured boots. If there is a difference in price they will expect you to pay it, conversely if its cheaper you should receive a partial refund to the difference in value.

You have no rights to force them to send you the other boots.

I do not know of any retail outlet that will give a 'cash' refund on a voucher.

Why not take the boots into a store and exchange them?
  • Hi,

a money saving remedy in my young day used to be to scrunch up some old newspaper a stuff into the toe, nowadays posh folks will use foam rubber.

If he needs them now he'll be happy to get them on and score a few goals, and as already said, he'll grow into them.

To be fair they are doing all they need to do to correct the mistake.

Your rights are to be put back in the same position as if you didn't order them in the first place, this is what they are doing.

Sports direct certainly don't have a great reputation but on this occasion they haven't treated you badly like you are suggesting.

Seems like a really good idea, particularly as the child will grow into them and it will save buying a new pair in the near future when they outgrow them.

By the time OP gets their resolution their child may well be pushing for a size 3 which is even funnier :D
