Buying a new car online

Hi

I was looking into buying a nearly new car via AutoTrader and came across "carandvandiscount.com" who are offering what seems like great deals on new cars i.e. at almost the same price as nearly new ones. So far they have been very responsive to queries.

Have you had any experience of them?

If I was to purchase - I'd pay a £500 deposit (which they suggest paying via credit card as this would give full protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act) with the rest to be paid two days before delivery.

Delivery is done by a driver from a dealership as they say they buy the car direct from Nissan and it has to be delivered to one of the dealerships that they regularly use. They also say that I'll be the first registered owner and that the V5 would follow a few days after delivery as the dealership needs to progress the paperwork.

Thanks

I haven't used them specifically, but always look at the likes of CarWow, Broadspeed, Coast2Coast and OrangeWheels to see what the maximum discount on new cars are.

I then use that to gauge the used market to ensure I don't do what you nearly did; buy a used car for more than I could buy new!

Often it's just a case of waiting for a dealership to advertise a used car at a sensible price that reflects a decent saving from brand new. More often than not many dealers will continue to advertise nearly new/used at high prices in the hope of getting some buyer that is not as scrupulous as you or I.

You can also look at taking finance on the used car to maximise things like deposit contributions and free servicing etc.
