Use credit card to pay for half of flight?

I want to purchase a flight ticket, I have more than half the money saved and was thinking about using my credit card and withdrawing £250 out a ATM and putting that into my main bank account. I would like to know do you incur changes straight away from the cash withdrawal or do the charges go on at end of month with repayment of interest. My credit card is Vanquis.

It will incur an interest from the day you withdraw cash on a daily basis until you pay that cash amount you have taken.

On the top of that you will still get charged a cash advancement charge of 3% of the amount of Cash you have withdrawn or £3, whichever is the greater.

Also be aware there is a limit on the amount of cash that you can withdraw each day, e.g 20% of your Credit Limit (Daily Cash withdrawal Limit).
  • So I can't withdrawal full £250 in one go?

Withdrawing cash on a credit card is very expensive, as the previous poster has explained. It also doesn't look good on your credit history.

Why not just buy the ticket using the credit card in the usual way ? You'll have no fees, no interest if you pay off the statement in full, and as an added bonus you'll be covered by S75 protection (assuming the ticket is more than £100).

Instead of withdrawing the £250, why don't you just pay the £250 using a credit card payment instead? That way you will get s75 protection too (unless you are booking the flight via a booking agent). It'll save you money doing it this way.

  • I only have £250 on credit card and will pay the other £300 out my current account. Can I transfer £300 onto my credit card or can I split payments, I going through Expedia.

Or I can wait another month and pay for flight fully without credit card.

It depends in your credit limit.
    It is explained here
    https://www.evanquis.com/help

"There is a limit on the amount of cash that you can withdraw each day, which is 20% of your Credit Limit (Daily Cash withdrawal Limit). Please be aware that if you go over your Credit Limit then you will incur a default fee."

you can't transfer £300 onto your credit card if that would give you a positive balance. It breaks the T&Cs

Expedia allow split payments in other countries. Why don't you contact them and ask if they do the same with a UK customer?

Can you ask your credit card provider for a limit increase?

Alternatively if you call the call centre they may be able to do a split payment, Ive never noticed the option to do that online though.

Have you checked the prices of the flights directly? Partly as it’s easier to deal directly with an airline than a middleman, but some airlines allow you to lock in the fare for either a deposit or fee, which might be worth considering.
