Estate agent sending someone without asking?

Just wondering if an estate agent is allowed to send someone around without confirming with tenants first?
They were banging the door, tried to get in through the back door and started going around the garden looking at the decking and fences. It seemed to be a contractor...

Do you know they were sent by the estate agent?0

But you were in? So why not just ask him to call you next time0

They should have let you know in advance.
Was this the first you knew about work being done/planned for the garden? Or is it in your contract that garden maintenance is included for example? Or you'd requested some work?
If it was totally out of the blue, I'd be inclined to send a short, polite letter to the LL (at the address provided), with a copy to the agent, thankig him for arranging (whatever it was), but asking if he'd in future let you have advance notice of visits by his agents, contractors etc.0 -
I wasn’t in, my housemate has recently suffered a bereavement so her boyfriend is packing her things because she has gone to her mother’s house. He was inwhen this happened but wasn’t comfortable answering the door, especially as it was unexpected and they were banging the front door and tried to open the back door before going around the garden.
We had requested no work done, and there’s no garden maintenance included.
When I phoned the agents to check they apologised and said the contractor was supposed to phone me.
I’m so angry right now. Over the last few weeks they have been awful0 -
Next time, remind them that you are American, have a licensed Shotgun, and are more used to US States' "stand your ground" laws about unexpected intruders (aka "shoot first" laws) than our more tolerant UK ones?0

I’m British so I can’t use that. Good idea though! Haha0
