Tracing company shares

As executor to my brothers will, I feel he owns company shares but there are no share certificates to be found. These days they are often stored online. How can I trace any shares he might own.?

What evidence do you have? Do you know which companies he may have had shares in? Are these UK shares?
All major company shares are managed by a share registrar who maintains the share holder lists. There a few main ones - eg Computershare, Equiniti, Capita and probably others. It may be worth contacting them, but it would be helpful if you knew which shares may be involved.
Another way to check is that many shares pay dividends on a regular basis. So if you look through his bank statements for income that recurs every 3, 6 or 12 months you may find something.0 -
Do you have access to his computer? Are there bookmarks for any brokers?
This is a lesson to the rest of us to at least leave a paper list, of places where you hold investments, and keep that updated.0
