credit card companies being overly protective

Options
im with egg and i have noticed over the past few months all of my internet transactions over £100 have to be verified. This is the biggest, daftest pain in the rear ever.

I purchase something, payment goes through but is later declined and i get a call from the company, (most recently john lewis) asking me if id like to try again. i try again but it declines again. i am apparently meant to ring egg up and verify the transaction with them... every time. They have huuge queues when i try to ring and i have to pay to call them - no free mins etc.

I also get probs with quidco as the transaction has not been completed online. i think this is all just a bit OTT.

anyone got any ideas about getting out of this? I may end up switching because they are such a pain.
