E.ON price hikes 38% night, 31% day rate
I have been with E.on for many.many years but the latest price hike is a step to far.
E.on last July moved me on to Energy Plan Assist saying it was their cheapest for me.
Energy Plan Assist 4th July 2018 (ALL figures incl 5% VAT)
DAY .015173 kwh
NIGHT .07959 kwh
stand charge elec .32036 per day
stand charge gas .28308 per day
****************************************************
Energy Plan Assist from April 1st 2019
DAY .19824 kwh (UP 31%)
NIGHT .10983 kwh (UP 38%)
stand charge elec .21956 per day (save me £37 a year)
stand charge gas .26513 per day (save me £6 a year)
**********************************************************
This price rise will cost me approx £280 a year
My usage is approx. 3000 kwh per year day rate and 6000kwh per year night rate, in a 1 bed bungalow using 2 night storage heaters
I cannot afford this price hike and will have to turn off one of the storage heaters next winter.
I have no idea what ASSIST means applicable to the plan because E.on are not assisting me with their so called cheapest tariff.
I am for the first time considering switching to BULB but I worry that they will put up their prices in April or May
The price cap seems to be making things worse for the consumer and better for the energy companies.
Is it possible for anyone to tell me where I can find the capped kwh price for day rates and night rates, I live in the South of England
Regards to all

@TC45
Could you please clarify one point from your statement above.
Do you use any gas in the year as I note you are paying a gas standing charge but haven't mention how much gas you are using?0 -
The OFGEM help for the Price Cap system can be found at https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/energy-price-caps/consumers0

Thank you for your reply i don't use gas but I have a gas meter so I have
to pay the standing charge.
Sorry I didn't make that clear in my post.

The EnergyPlan Assist tariff is associated with receiving the Warm Home Discount payment from EON.
Your rates should have changed on 1st January when the Cap was introduced, Southern :E7 : 21.105 p/day, 15.614 p/kWh (day), 8.852 p/kWh(night), Gas 25.820 p/day, 3.856 p/kWh
The Assist tariff is not the same rates as the EnergyPlan tariff which follows the Cap. The link on EONs website still shows the January rates.0 -
The rates I have shown for 1st April 2019 are the rates E.on sent me in their letter last week stating that is when my rates will change

I think we need the E.ON forum reps to help here as you are paying £96 a year for gas standing charges which eats up most of your Warm Home Discount payment.
You need to see if you can move just your gas to a supplier who doesn't charge a standing charge and still retain your E.ON Warm Home Discount by just getting electricity from E.ON
A suitable gas tariff example is (prices taken from the Eastern region)Tariff Details
Supplier Ebico (Robin Hood Energy)
Tariff Name Ebico Zero Green Fixed v3
Tariff Type Fixed
Payment Method Monthly Fixed Direct Debit
Unit Rate 1 6.531 pence per kWh
Unit Rate 2 Not applicable
Standing Charge 0.000 pence per day
Tariff ends on 12 months
Price guaranteed until 12 months
Exit fees
(if you cancel this tariff before the end date)
Not applicable
Discounts and additional charges Not applicable
Additional products or services included Not applicable0 -
Thank you gsmlnx for the information

Hello TC45 and welcome to the Forums.
Energy Plan Assist is our default tariff for customers recognised as being in vulnerable circumstances through, as PeterGr says, their eligibility for Warm Home Discount. These prices are lower than our standard Energy Plan tariff.
Vulnerable customers who haven't chosen another tariff are put on to Energy Plan Assist rather than the more expensive standard default tariff. There are no exit fees or tie-ins with this tariff.
Energy Plan Assist isn't our cheapest product. It is, though the cheapest we can put customers on without them agreeing to the terms of fixed tariffs available through our website or the Price Comparison sites.
For a fuller picture of what's available, I'd pop your usage in kWh on to the Price Comparison sites. These will show what's available both with us and with the other suppliers.
All our tariffs have daily standing charges. As gsmlnx advises, with no gas usage, you may want to choose a supplier with a No Standing Charge tariff. Whilst the meter is physically in your home, we'll continue to apply a standing charge.
Standing charges can be cancelled where it can be demonstrated no gas is being used. You'll need to be on our standard Energy Plan tariff, haven't accepted a contract and use no gas (confirmed with regular readings). There's more about this on our website.
Hope this is of interest TC45.
