Crossover of rental properties

We're moving areas and have found a suitable rental. However, we don't want to serve notice on our current property until we know we've got the other one. But ... part of the referencing is from the current landlord. How on earth can we get round this? Or can't we? Not sure how this affects our 'main residence' either. We get on well with the landlord but don't want to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Also employers references - Is this just for how much We earn and if so can't I just provide salary slips/employment contract. Don't really want my employer meddling in my business.

Could pay all upfront for six months and multiples work on my husbands salary ...

Dont know why you should feel awkward about an employers reference or one from your current landlord. Both should be handled professionally.

  • Actually Comms your logic has sorted out the first bit - thank you.

Workwise then - were moving quite a long way away and once we are settled I will be looking for a new job. My employer will see that this address is a long way away. I don't want them to know I'm moving before I actually move ...

We rented recently with an agent who did employers references. They didn't tell our employers the address of the property.

Obviously if the lettings agent is an independent your employer could look up where they're based, but would they actually bother?

Ah ok yes that's a good point too, thank you!
  • Is there any other method to prove income rather than asking a very slow HR department?

You'll have to ask the lettings agent - they're all different in what they'll accept.
  • They're very thorough which I completely understand, it's just that I don't want my employer to know my business before they have to.
