PPI claim NOT opened by me but resolved...? HELP!

Options
I have recently used a 3rd party company to check for past PPI. One bank I had a loan with has replied stating that they have previously resolved / settled a dispute directly with me.

It would seem that back in 2013 I was sent a letter from the bank stating that the PPI was not mis-sold and if I want to dispute their decision I have 6 months to raise it with the ombudsman.

I have no recollection of even opening a dispute. I did have a phone call with them ages ago asking for info on PPI I'd had - they told me that I needed to tell them what products I believed I had PPI on. I had no idea so I never took it any further at that time.

The bank say they have no written record of me opening a PPI dispute and would have to go back through phone recordings. Wouldn't I have had to sign something?!?!?!?!

I have raised a complaint with the bank but any idea on where I stand with this?

What is I did not open a case.....does the letter they sent in 2013 close this off forever? Or do I still have an opportunity to claim?

I don't even know how much the loan was for!

Not having a written record is quite normal. Many use telephone, email and websites to submit. Telephone calls tend to be retained for 5-6 years.

So no. Nothing needs to be signed.

You do not have to say "I want to complain". If the person on the call believes you have given an expression of dissatisfaction then that is enough for them to trigger the complaints process. This would be given to their complaints team to act on and they would write to you with their outcome.

You dont need to. You just have ask them if there was PPI. That is often enough for them to start the process.

all depends on the audit trail of the bank. If they issued a letter and it went to the correct address then you are stuffed unless they volunteer to look at it again.

Thanks for the info even if the news is disappointing as it seems there will be nothing I can do.

I know there are 2 more PPI claims with this bank for joint mortgages - I am now wondering if that same phone call in which I asked if I had PPI on any products with them will have triggered the same result.

    I certainly hope not!
