Lost Shares and Interactive Investor

Quite a few years I bought some shares from an online company and rather foolishly forgot all about them. I don't even know where I bought them from.

I assumed therefore that 'that was that'

Today out of the blue I receive a letter forwarded to me from my old address (I moved out over 3 years ago)

It came from a company called Interactive Investor which I have never heard of

the one page sheet mentions my share holding, with a market value showing as being worth about £840 but a cash value of 11%, about £100

I seem to have been paying a quarterly fee too of £22.50.

OK I should have informed the company if I moved and should have checked bank statements, but is there anything I can do now to sell the shares.

I don't have any share certificates

thank you

    Hi,

    here's a link to II.

You must have an account with II since they have contacted you.

They will hold your shares in a nominee account, and the cash value will be dividends which have been paid on the shares.

The £22.50 is the quarterly fee, so you must've set up a DD at some time.

You will need to phone them to sell.

Edit: it may be that the quarterly fee was taken from your cash balance.

It might be your account was with TD Waterhouse (later TD Direct) who II purchased and migrated the accounts onto its own charging structure? They would have attempted to contact you about any changes.

    Hi,

You will need to phone them to sell.

Bad advice. Selling by telephone is £40, selling online is £10.

Get your password reset and trade online.

yes, I know that, I do all my trading on line, infact I'm with II, having moved from HL and also had my TDW merged with II.

I was thinking that as the OP didn't even know that he had an account with II, let alone an online account, then it was best to phone.

Hopefully when he does phone his situation will become clearer, it may well be, as mentioned before, that he had a TWD account and that can be used, or he can set up a new online account.

I can still login to the new II.co.uk with my TD Waterhouse (later TD Direct) account details setup over 10 years ago to view statements etc. The account has been closed for around 5 years.

OP here ... thank you for al the replies

I've been looking on t'internet and see that II joined Halifax Share Dealing, so that'll be where I bought the shares all those years ago.

I'll phone and see what I can do.

    Regards !

More specifically HSD originally provided the II branded stock dealing - until II setup their own capability circa 10 years ago. HSD remain a separate company, with their own customers, in competition with II in the fixed fee DIY platform market.
