Need about 10 stakes to create a frame around tall growing perennials and for broad beans.

Garden centers asking £3.49!! per stake.

Looked at buying treated timber from wood suppliers but then have to cut to length and create a point, the bare ends are then vulnerable.

Any MSE ideas??

Just use bog standard bamboo canes from the likes of Wilko?

It's surprising how strong canes can be when you truss them together with twine. They're all I bother to use for our plants.

My bean poles survived next door's gazebo flying into them last year - they [STRIKE]were[/STRIKE] are just cane & twine

  • I know exactly what you mean. I have a number of Dahlias that routinely grow to 5ft or more. Canes just don't do it. I've bought a load of broom handles, may have been from Wilkos, and even then I'm looking at using at least 2 per plant and that rubbery flexi tie.
Delivery drive did think I was weird and got some' have you got a Harry Potter /witch thing going on?'.
