Running out of options for donor/throw away accounts? Suggestions?

Options
I know the best donor accounts are ones that are fast to open and unlikely to offer their own switch bonuses. I know the fastest ones are second accounts with banks I already have or app-based banks like Monzo and Metro.

The banks I already use are - Nationwide FlexDirect, First Direct ordinary current/debit account, Natwest ordinary current/debit account, Tesco ordinary current/debit account. I think the other accounts they offer all have various fees.

While I can't open another Monzo account. I opened one and immediately switched then tried to rejoin them and they said I'd need to leave it a few months because it's clear I've joined them just to switch away from them (which is true). They don't allow someone to reopen an account in such quick succession.

I tried to register for Metro bank and it asked for a photo of my ID. Even though my photo was clear it didn't accept and after 3 attempts it said to contact my local Metro bank in person which is very far away.

So now based on this I feel like I'm running out of options. As I say I don't want to use any banks that may offer their own switch bonuses as a donor account as that would be silly. Any suggestions on others to use?

Are Starling or Revolut actual banks that you can use for a switch? I tried Revolut and it didn't work but I chose the option to have a 'virtual/online card' as it's free - if I got sent an actual card in the post (think it's £4) could I then use Revolut for a switch?

  • Why don't you just open more accounts with the banks you're already using? I have 4 or 5 natwest current accounts and have never had a problem.

Revolut are not signed up to CASS https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/banksandbuildingsocieties/Pages/banks.aspx#R

Do they credit search you for additional accounts?

Monzo/Starling are covered by CASS and can be used to switch however Revolut is not covered and as such cannot be used. As above, if you are able to open a second account with your main bank that might also be a viable option - they also shouldn't have to verify your ID a second time although they will still conduct a credit search. If possible use a bank where you have already exhausted their switch incentive recently and are unlikely to be eligible for another bonus anytime soon.

Thanks. I didn't realise that's possible. I'll do that with my Natwest accounts.

As a matter of interest, how quickly would a new account be opened with a bank you already have an account with?

Depends on the bank and their view of you.
So if no questionable history, IME usually minutes.
But could take a week or so to get debit card/numbers.
