Hi. I came home tonight around 7PM and parked my car opposite my house. There was gap of a meter or so between my car and neighbors car. Around 8PM, I had a look outside n seen my car was touching the neighbors car. My neighbor was in her window looking it at. I moved my car a meter or so and then asked her to come out n have a look at her car to make sure there was no damage. She came out and checked it with torch and confirmed that everything looks alright. While we were talking, another neighbor came out n asked her if everything was ok and she said yeah. I never knew she already had called police. Police came around 9PM, went to her house n then they went to witness neighbors house n left. They never came to my house. But am worried that she might have reported it as hit and run or something. Do I need to go to ploice station and inform them of what had happened. Please guide. Thanks

You don't have to report any none injury accident to the police.

    No. This is incorrect advice

You only report to the police if you have not exchanged details at the scene

I would go there right now and complain they did not visit you.

When you get back though remember to put your handbrake on or park somewhere else.;)

Forget it. If there had been a problem the police would have knocked at your door.

Yes of course, I was thinking about OP's situation where they know each other. I think you have to leave your details not necessarily talk to the other party, say you hit an empty parked car you can leave your details and go without waiting to exchange details.

In that scenario you don't have to "wait to exchange details" but do have to report this to the police ASAP
  • We do know each other as neighbors but its just Hi/Hello. She checked her car properly and confirmed that there was no marks on her car as it was just touching her car. I still took some pictures and she was happy that there was no damage to both cars. We didn’t exchange any details as we both know where eachother lives n it was kind of matter solved. I understand that she moght have called police before I spoke to her, but am just concerned that they visted her and orher witness, wrote my car reg but never knocked on my door so she might have reported “Hit & Run” or claim etc.

I'm fairly sure shifting your car the dizzy heights of a metre away wouldn't count as a hit and run. They were probably just checking you were taxed and insured.
But if it's on your mind why not phone the police and ask what's going on?

I would definitely contact the police today and tell them what you reported in the first post here.
