O2 coverage reduced

I’ve been with O2 for 3 years, renewing my contract in March 2018. Since about November I’ve been having trouble with my signal in the house. Today I’m on 1 bar. I’ve contacted them twice. The first time I was told I can’t get a boost box because I’m not a business account. The second told me to activate WiFi calling. Now, I have a couple of issues about having to use WiFi calling: I’m paying a contract to for my phone, yet I can only receive or make calls if I use WiFi calling so it negates having to pay for a contract for this! Also, my data is intermittent when I’m outside the house in my local area.

My husband is on GiffGaff which runs off the O2 mast. He is unable to use WiFi calling as it’s not an option on his phone.

I have been getting text “updates” on the mast. The last time I spoke to O2 I was promised it would be fixed by mid Feb.... Recent text told me I’d have an update by mid March. Texts are saying there has been fire damage to the mast.

Does anyone know what options I have. Can I ask for compensation or could I get out of my contract without paying a fee? I’ve checked the coverage and O2 comes out as one of the best in my area yet the coverage I’m actually receiving is completely different!

I know exactly how you feel because I was with O2 for years when suddenly I noticed that the data was so slow, that even doing a speed test on my mobile would struggle to load. All because a mast near me wasn't working properly too.

I also did the same as you and registered for texts updates and just kept getting the same texts "We're working hard to fix the mast" etc etc.

Do you use the MyO2 app? Does it say that you can "Upgrade now" (or downgrade in my case just so I could leave and switch networks) or are you able to change to a 30 day tariff?

Because I was on a SIM only contract I was able to change my tariff to a 30 day rolling contract and then ask for my PAC code to give 30 days notice to cancel. That way I didn't have to pay any early termination fees.

I gave EE my PAC code and my number was transferred to them in a few days with no problem at all. I've been with them for nearly a year now and haven't had any problems.

O2 managed to fix the mast on the day I switched to EE, but just checking on O2's coverage checker, that didn't last long as the mast near me (PO12 1HQ) still isn't working over a year later!

See if you can do what I did. Switch to a 30 day rolling tariff, and ask for a PAC code.

I hope this works for you. Let us know how you get on.
