Universal Credit - Housing Payment

Hi,

I am looking for advice, I get my Universal Credit payment 11th of every month, in January my work coach at Job Centre requested UC to pay my rent direct to my landlord who is a Housing Association (not private) which came in effect from my payment on February 11th, but till this today, my landlord still hasn't received my rent, does anyone know how long it takes? because I am in so much rent arrears and I am having second thoughts now that UC pay rent direct as it's taking ages for my rent to reach my landlord, anyway a few weeks ago, I contacted my landlord and I asked them if they could contact Universal Credit so my income officer woman emailed UC on Friday 22nd February to request UC to pay me my rent so I can pay my landlord, when will I start getting rent for myself so I can pay my landlord?

If I knew people were having problems with the way UC paying rent as I am a member on this Facebook group page called Universal Credit Survival and essentials, I wouldn't have requested it in the first place as I was struggling to budget last year, that's why my work coach at Job Centre requested it, now I think I made a terrible mistake.

Any advice would be great, thank you.

  • So did you receive the same amount on the 11th Jan and on the 11th Feb?

With Social rented sector landlords such as Housing Associations, they don't get paid the Housing on the same date you receive a UC payment.

UC will make bulk payments to Housing Associations once or twice a month and the bulk payments will be for lots of different UC claimants.

Your Housing Association will know on what dates each month they receive UC payments, so all you have to do, is confirm to the HA the date the Alternative Payment Arrangement was set up from. The HA should then know what date after your normal payment date, they should receive your Housing payment.

Some HA's are better than others. Some will chase their tenants, until they see the first payment come through from UC. And you may still keep getting arrears letters, as the UC payment is not received by the dates your rent is supposed to be paid by. Again it us up to the HA to adjust their records to recognise the dates they are paid by UC.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
