£430,000 for a new 2 bedroom home, in Farnham, Surrey, so not even in London, but about 1 hour from London.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. This make me angry and sad. I don't know where this country is going, but how can a 2 bedroom starter home be valued at close to half a million pounds. I understand that not all properties are priced so high......but come on! £430,000....
it's madness..... You are being mugged off if you pay that!!! This country wants to make you work your butt off just for a 2 bed home. Get on that Hamster Wheel until you are 70. Work debt work debt work debt. Why would anyone choose to work 9-6pm until they are 68 to pay this off, just retire age 45 and move to Spain.

I will never understand developers fascination with squeezing multiple bathrooms into a 2 bed house. Nice to have, of course, bit far from essential.
I agree with you o/p fwiw but there are plenty of cheaper areas in the country with far more reasonable prices. New builds will always command a premium, how do pre-owned properties compare price wise locally?0 -
Simple supply and demand, I am afraid. Clearly in Surrey there are more people who want to live there than property available. There are parts of the UK where properties are priced below £100,000 but less people want to live there compared to Farnham.0

What's the point of your post? You have two options; look elsewhere given Surrey is notoriously expensive, or save more before buying.0

Surrey's one of the most affluent ares of the Home Counties. Even the end far from London is still regarded as commutable and you pay top dollar.
And yes, you're paying for individualised toilets by the look of it. I despair at modern house layouts. They seem to be answering questions nobody's asked. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
You're paying for the area. You do know the prices don't go up or down depending on how near to London they are lol? You might pay more in desirable bits of Dorset or Manchester!
Err thanks for your opinion. Would love to hear what your 45 year old self will say, so please come and update us in the future

Looks pleasant enough, not great value though. Will some mug buy it in this economic climate? Who knows.0

It's absolutely crazy. I saw a one bed in Oxford for £500 000?! https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-68033089.html
Again, there are less expensive ones, but wow!#220 -
You don't have to live in Surrey. I never have.
Yes, of course, there are people who want to fight tooth and nail for a place in/around London for what they call the "quality of life." I sit here in quiet, sunny Devon and think what a bunch of ****ers they must be, but there's no accounting for taste.0 -
It’s crazy as a similar 1 bed in Newcastle is going for £55k compared that Oxford half a mil. 10 minute walk to the city centre with plenty of jobs on tap. rightmove.co.uk/ property-for-sale/ property-68880643.html0

Where do you even begin with this? Who says it is a starter home?

It sounds like someone is bitter than they can not buy a nice new build house in the area they want. Thats life.
A quick 30 second look on rightmove and you can buy a 2 bedroom house for £245,000 within 3 miles of that development. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60554499.html - so there you go, I have saved you nearly £200k in a matter of minutes.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
