In some respects it is easier. In others it is harder.
Banks are generally much more fairer in how they handle complaints today than they were at the start. However, PPI stopped being sold, other than the two good types, nearly a decade ago. So, records may not be as easy to locate. The FOS are upholding less PPI complaints today than in the past.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
And don't forget that there may not be records left from the 90's, it is almost 30 years ago....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

HOWEVER, it's three decades ago so don't be surprised if your complaint falls at the first hurdle and the Bank no longer have any records.0 -

Either go on the lender's website as they will probably have a PPI complaints area or write simply
Dear Bank
Ref: Loan for name xyz
Please confirm if there was any PPI on loans in our name. The loans were active between <date 1> and <date 2>
Our address at the time was ......
Signed

You will not be able to complain on their behalf without a letter of authority
Remember also you need to find out if they even have any records left before you can look into a complaint.
Template letters, particularly if your English is poor, may harm your complain as they could include stuff that has no relevance to youSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Tsb and Barclays
If it was the OLD TSB then Lloyds have the complaints, the current TSB are basically a new bank with no liability for old sales.
You don't need to write a letter though, you can start the complaint online
