Backdated carer's allowance received.

Hi
I have just received 3 months of backdated carer's allowance. My query is, I receive UTC with the carer element already. Basically £474 a month. The payment received was for over £1,000. Going forward, will I just not receive any UTC for a few months or is that actually money owed to me?
I ask because when I had to leave work to start caring futime I had a final part pay cheque go into my account and I didn't receive the whole £474 for the first month. I received around £100.
It's all very confusing tbh.
Thanks for any insight.

When did your claim for UC start? and when did your claim for carers allowance be backdated to?0 -
For the period that your UC and your Carers Allowance (CA) overlap, the CA money will be deducted from your UC payments.
For the future your total receipts will continue to be £474 pm. Your UC payments will top up your CA monies to total £474pm.
I assume there is not a housing element paid with your UC?

For any UC assessment period that has already been paid for which you have now received CA there will have been an overpayment of UC which will have to be paid back.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Hiya,
Yes I meant universal credit, woops. I live at home with my parents so the only things I can claim are universal credit and carers allowance.
I claimed for both on 2nd November 2018 for both.
I received UC with the carer element and two days ago that larger payment from carer's allowance was paid into my account.
I know going forward my UC would be reduced pound for pound as I get carer's allowance, but Im now confused about whether I need to pay anything back now, or whether it is a case of the payment for this month would be reduced as the payment has gone in and then the month after that would just be the same amount as it was before essentially. Just with a UC payment separate to fortnightly CA?
Thank you so much for the quick replies!0 -
If the UC and CA start dates are the same and you have had the carer element in the UC payment from the start you will have been overpaid UC by the whole of the arrears amount you have just received from CA and it will be recovered. However I don’t know the mechanics of this. Presumably you are due another UC payment at the end of this week so the breakdown of this payment may clarify things.

You will get no financial benefit from claiming CA because it is deducted in full from your UC. It is still worth having though because you get Class 1 NI credits.
Your future UC payments will be reduced by the amount of the CA (a deduction of £291.41/month).
The arrears of CA (as already explained in this thread) will mean that you have been overpaid UC for the overlapping period and the overpayment will be recovered by deduction from your future UC payments.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. As previously advised, the overpayment will be taken monthly by installments.
