BT - Termination fee for a FREE service?

I recently cancelled my 18 months BT service (Landline and Broadband) about 5 months early.
The contract included 18 months of BT Sports for FREE.
My final bill includes a termination fee for Broadband and Calls for ending early.
I can accept this as BT were losing out for 5 months' of me paying them till end of contract.
However, there is a further fee for ending BT Sport early!
I don't understand how I can be charged a termination fee for a service I was given for FREE!
BT are NOT losing out in any way by me stopping using BT Sport 5 months early... (indeed, they are actually SAVING money because they no longer need to provide that service to me whilst not receiving any income from it).
Is it normal for BT (or anyone) to charge a termination fee for a FREE service....?

Are you switching provider or moving house or just cancelling these services in general?
If they are losing your custom they may feel they've nothing to lose by implementing the contract terms for cancellation which may include an end to any applied discounts while the account remained live. You'd need to check your contract T's & C's for that. It may just be a billing error generated by the account being cancelled.
Otherwise it may just be cheaper to leave the service running if you're not changing provider, as 'termination fees' are often just the remaining monthly fees for the term.0 -
Am switching because it works out cheaper with an alternative, even after the termination fee.
But I'd calculated the termination fee based on the remaining months of payments.
Not additional fees on a service I wasn't paying for....There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't!0 -

Depending on who you are switching to, they might pay your termination fees by way of bill credit on your new account.
Check with your new supplier if they do this, they usually request a copy of your final bill from old supplier showing any termination charges.0
