Is there any way of getting rid of those gawd-awful 'speech bubbles' that appear whenever you hover over items in file lists or even when coming to MSE.com forums? There must be a settings option to switch them off surely?

Dunno, I've never thought about it, I know they are put onto websites so that those people who cannot see well, can get the Alt text larger or read back to them by the computer voice thingy so they know what they are clicking.....just annoying I guessThere are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

They're called tooltips.
You can do it but it involves editing the registry - if you get this wrong you can seriously mess up your computer, so think seriously about exactly how annoying they are first!
