failed car repair and constant excuses

Hi. So my turbo went on my car and i had to have a new engine.
I approved the repair and was quoted 2 to 3 days.

I rang 3 days later several times and messaged several times and eventually got through to be told he was waiting for parts and that it would be another 1 to 2 days.

I rang repeatedly 2 days later after having messages ignored and was told he was still waiting for parts and it would be another couple of days.

2 days later I messaged to check progress and after having my calls ignored repeatedly i was told he was having problems and It would be ready tge next day.

The next day I paid him a visit and found he still hadn't completed the rebuild and that it would be ready the next day as he only had an hour's work.
I rang again and messaged repeatedly 2 days later and was messaged back to be told his dad was terminally ill and he was with him for a few days.

The weekend passed and I left him to it and I then asked for a refund and/or compensation at which point he told me it would be ready that day.
That evening I finally collected the car.
The next day it broke down and wouldn't restart until it had cooled down.
I messaged him and he told me to take it up to get checked.

He told me the issue was a sensor and that he would order one which would be there in a few days and I struggled on with the car.
A few days later I dropped the car off and was told the same day or the next day.

4 days later after many ignored calls and messages I collected the car in his absence with his permission and found the fault to be still present.

I'm at a loss as to what to Do.

Do I give it him back and get ignored for how many more weeks or do I take it further. And if I take it further...how?

Many thanks for your help.
