Also, the agent I spoke to today said they will reimburse if we buy new certificates and send the receipts, so we're going to get new ones and send them tomorrow.

Do you realise that as it is your first adult passport you will more than likely have to attend an interview at the nearest passport office?

Did you clarify with them which service you could use the standard or express? i.e.£11 or £35 4 days or next day

just out of curiosity does that count if renewing a child passport and they are now an adult?

    I am not quite sure.

I understand that if you had a passport in your own right and not on parents it was treated as a renewal but I have a feeling that might have changed now.

Best to contact the passport enquiry line to check.

Spoke to them again today. They've said they will continue to look for them. If they are not found we will need to buy new certificates and send the receipts for them to reimburse. But now I worry that they will loose them too and we won't get reimbursed.
If you live In England or wales the passport office can order them direct from the GRO. It will be much quicker for them to do this.

    It hasn’t changed. It’s still a renewal

No, it doesn't. No interview needed you just do a normal renewal application, you don't need their photos countersigned either if they are still recognisable.
