Virgin Money - how long?

Hi all

I just applied for a Virgin Money 0% card which was approved and they confirmed my credit limit (although not in the confirmation email, just on the confirmation screen). No balance transfer applied for or required.

The website says it takes 7-10 working days to arrive but does anyone have any insight into how long it actually takes? I'm planning to use it to buy a car next weekend. (I have seen another post recently about how long it takes but in that case there was a balance transfer and it looks like that slowed it down).

Thanks in advance!

It varies by production schedule and volume. You might be ok for the end of the week. But it'll be tight.

Are you completely sure the car dealer will accept your credit card? They often allow deposits by card but rarely accept full payments that way.

By the look of this forum there has been a spate of dealers either refusing cards for the full amount or surcharging to cover their Merchant Service Charge fees. Yes, I know this is not allowed anymore (except under certain circumstances) but you need to make sure it isn't going to happen to you before you get to the point of paying for the car.

Thanks both, that's helpful. Terry, the dealer confirmed before we started haggling that they do accept payment by credit card (and their Ts & Cs confirm this with no mention of a fee), thank you though.

7-10 working days seems about right. I hope you do receive the card by next weekend but my feeling is that it will probably take a bit longer.

Well just be mindful that dealers will tell you anything to get a deal. Next thing you know they will take a deposit from you (by CC) and when it comes to paying the balance they tell you that, 'yes, we do take credit cards - but only for deposits'.

Update for anyone looking at this later: card ordered on a Saturday, card arrived 12 days later on the Thursday.

And the dealer did accept the card without any kind of fee or penalty :)
