Tariff whilst switching

Thanks for the explanations, it's obviously me that was mistaken

Thanks for all the helpful responses and for those that did extra digging. I will go back to Octopus as they have clearly misled me.0

I have received a response from Octopus' Operations Director and it appears I was misled in their original response.
He has confirmed that if I put in a switch request before fixed period ends, I will remain on my current tariff until the switch takes place.
Hope this helps others.

Read this thread with interest as I was going to start a similar one. I'm transferring from Eon to Octopus, started the process at the weekend, my fixed runs out in a fortnight, will I go onto the standard tariff or stay on my fixed rate?! Looked at Eons terms and conditions and can't see anything referencing this question.
Many thanks if anybody can answer!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

@janninew
Referring you to the excellent post by @ASavvyBuyer aboveIt is covered in Ofgem's SLC 24.9-12:
Continuation of Fixed Term Supply Contract terms for interim period
24.9 In relation to each Fixed Term Supply Contract, unless the Domestic Customer has entered into a new Fixed Term Supply Contract with the licensee or paragraph 22C.5 of standard condition 22C applies, the licensee must ensure that where paragraph 24.10 applies a Domestic Customer will continue to be subject to the same Charges for the Supply of Electricity and the same terms and conditions (but not any Termination Fee) that applied to that Fixed Term Supply Contract until they have changed their supplier.
The SLC is the Standard License Conditions which means that it is legal binding on all energy suppliers. So it makes no difference if a supplier puts it in their T&Cs or not, they cannot get around the law.
My bolding of the quote says that E.ON must (by law which they cannot take away in any T&Cs) maintain the current fixed price while you are switching away.0 -

Thank you. You've reassured me, I've an EV which would be costly on the E.On standard tariff!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Hello janninew and to confirm what others have said.
With our Fixed Tariffs, we use a Price Protection window. This is open 49 calendar days before a Fixed Tariff ends until 20 working days after. Provided the new supplier is in touch within this period, we'll keep you on the same prices as now whilst the switch goes through. Exit fees also don't apply whilst in this window.
This is included in our Terms and Conditions. There's a section - 'our price protection rules' - under the specific tariff description towards the end of the terms. Usually section 11.
Sorry to lose you janninew and hope this helps.
