I have a dodgy thyroid overactive and just sailed through my menopause. I actually thought I was going through it shaking sweating etc and it turned out to be the thyroid problem. When I did start the proper menopause I was like 30 seconds of feeling hot and that was it. My GP did not like prescribing HRT if you did not need it and I was classed as not needing it.


A friend recently started her full menopause and sweating not sleeping etc and she went to her GP and given HRT. Had an awful experience, changed to a different one made no difference, she thought she was taking a heart attack she could feel her heart pounding through the day and at night. She decided the sweats were better than feeling like she was going to die.



But others have no problems. It is just the luck of the draw whether you can handle HRT.

My menopause started when I was 43. I took HRT for 10 years without any problems. I stopped taking it because my GP thought I had been on it long enough. Haven’t had any symptoms since.

Thankyou all for your personal experiences and advice. I suppose it's like a lot of things, trial and error.

I will give it a go and if I experience any worrying side effects I will see the GP again and take it from there
