Deceased parents - no probate

Hi, looking advice please - would be very grateful.
So the history is my mum passed away approx 20 years ago, my dad remarried, and then he passed away 15 years ago. My dad did not have a will so all estate went to my step mum who unfortunately took everything and left me and my two brothers - we were all young, 18 yrs old and younger.

We had to buy the family home off her so that my brothers had somewhere to live (took out a morthage using relatives and just paid the interest) and then I lived with a relative.
Was wanting to see if I can claim PPI for my deceased parents - not sure if any exists. Would this be possible without going through step mother? There has been no contact from her since my dad died so not sure if this would be possible, or if I can somehow get in contact with her and get her to make me owner of parents estate - again not sure how possible this would be due to the unfortunate circumstances.

Many thanks

    No, forget it, move on.
What you suggest cannot be done.

You might give your stepmother ideas though.

Even if they did and records still existed after all this time, you cannot raise the complaint (The executor can) and if the complaint was upheld, th money would go to your step mum.

Too late for your family but, if anyone else finds themselves in the same situation, someone could claim a share of the parent's estate for any children who were still being financially maintained by that parent.
