Saga Cancelled My Car Insurance

Having bought 12 month car insurance in January, Saga contacted me to say I had not paid the premium. As I had paid it in full I contacted them. They said I still owed them £7. When I questioned why, they said that the web site had given me the wrong price, even though I paid the price stated. After offering to pay the extra they said it wasn't necessary and they would write off the additional amount. A few day later I got a letter saying they would be cancelling the insurance it the £7 was not paid. Again I phoned them and they said the insurance would NOT be cancelled and the letter had been a mistake. They even sent me an email confirming this. A week or so later I got a letter saying my insurance had been cancelled with them and some of the premium was paid into my bank account. Obviously very upset, I phoned them and they said a mistake had been made. They tried to reinstate the insurance but needed a few days to complete it. They say I am insured but I'm not 100% sure. It's been a week now and the insurance hasn't been completed. I have not documentation to confirm I'm insured!

I would like to cancel and go with a proper insurance company.

Am I within my rights to get a full refund and go with another company and still retain my full no claim bonus?

Whenever you are not happy with your insurance company the route to go down is a complaint in line with their complaints procedure

In your complaint ask for compensation for the inconvenience they have caused you

Then if you are not happy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication

You can cancel your policy at any time and take out insurance elsewhere. You won't get any NCD for the part year, but assuming no claims have been made during the part year you will have the NCD you used at the start of the policy to use on a new policy

You don't have any right to a full refund

Point out to them the reason for the cancellation and ask them to waive the cancellation fee due when you cancel mid term
