Is Section 75 decision final?

To briefly describe the situation, a German Car Rental company charged my credit card for damage to a rental car. They could not provide sufficient evidence of the damage an my Credit Card company agreed with their bank to 'Charge Back' the transaction. The Car Rental company are now invoicing me for the outstanding balance
So my question is, is the Credit Card Company's decision final? Should I ignore the invoices?
Obvs I don't want any cross-border bailiffs knocking on my door!

For the company to get the money from you, they would have to take you to court in the UK and win. It probably depends on how much you owe and if the company has a UK office who could sue you.0

You mention S75 in the title but chargeback in your post.
What was it?.....they are 2 very different things.0 -
OP just because your bank has reversed the charge on your credit card, it doesn't mean the money can't be claimed from you, just not from your credit card. Your credit card company is not a court of law.
This leaves the German hire car company with the option of chasing you by other legal means for the funds. There's not enough detail in your post to advise on the likelihood of this.
If it's a worrysome sum, consult any legal advice available on your motor or household insurance policies.0 -
First of all, thank you for the helpful replies!
BoGoF: I didn't know section 75 and chargeback were different (but now I do thanks to google). By CC company use the term 'claim has been successful'. The Car Hire company quote a chargeback ID. I guess I could ask my CC company to clarify - I simply filed a 'dispute'
camelot1971: Its 500eur. The problem is I don;t know where I stand legally - or even which jurisdiction I could be sued in. I'm certainly not an expert in English Law and I know absolutely ziltch about German law!
Right now I'm ignoring the invoices as I think they are just trying their luck.
I've never needed to seek legal advice. Where would be my first port of call?0
