This story makes no sense. A full package of foundation would weigh a decent amount, usually an ounce plus the packaging weight.

An empty package would weigh nothing, there is ZERO way you would carry it to a changing room before opening and going ‘OMG empty!’

So either the story is made up or the bottle got passed to a friend in the changing room and OP felt the need to tell us a tall tale for, reasons?

If you are accused of shoplifting then you only have yourself to blame, it looks very dodgy what you did.

Pitch forks will be out in force on Oxford Street.

Joking OP but seriously you need to rethink your actions, don't do it again.
  • If you didn't get called out in-store, I'd say you're pretty unlikely to be followed up. Thousands of people visit Oxford Street everyday and filter in and out of shops. It's simply not cost-effective to trawl through hours and hours of footage over a bottle of foundation.

Given shoplifting happens a lot, even if you were captured on CCTV and circulated your face will soon be lost in the sea of other potential suspects. Just don't go back there, or to the surrounding stores, for a few months.

And as everyone has already said, please stop sneaking things into changing rooms.

Hi LadyDee, I know it's not the best thing to do, but it's only because of previous experiences wasting money on damaged items that stores won't refund.

To clarify, I always decide whether I want something based on the testers before taking them into the changing room. 99% of the time I then buy the thing I opened, unless there was a problem with the item to begin with. It's not a case of opening things, deciding I don't like them, and returning them to shelves with the packaging opened.
They're not going to refund for change of mind purchases but if the product is faulty then they have no choice. If you're that concerned then open the package up at the till when you pay for the item.

Anybody else remember the Harrods Advent Cosmetics Calendar post? All those little doorways empty?

An honest person would simply open the goods in the store once they had paid for them. If there is a problem, they can then be exchanged.

I used to do this in Argos, as they were notorious at one time for reselling returned goods.

    They still are

Lastly, an empty packet is going to feel lighter than a full one, just as a start that should give you a clue.

You're still qualified as a newbie on here although you joined 5 years ago. So I can't be rude.

    Stop doing this.

Just buy it and open it in the store once bought. If it's missing, complain there and then. Easy.

So you lift a box with a foundation which is normally 30mls and take it to discover empty box?? Really:rotfl::rotfl: You just did not notice hey this box feels so light!

I would notice straight away it was an empty box without sneaking into the changing room.

Stores will refund if damaged and you can ask them to open to check the product. I have had many staff open anyway to check it is the correct shade in the box.

This does not sound like a normal department store as you cannot just walk up to the counter and lift products they are usually in drawers or behind the counter.
