Can a 2g phone accept a 3g or 4g sim card?

Hello there,
I was just wondering, I bought a new mobile phone which is 2g and I have a EE sim card and I could not get the internet to work on my new mobile and I called EE who said "sorry but EE only has 3 and 4g and no EE sim card will work in a mobile that only has 2g!"
But can someone confirm if this sounds correct?
I thought that didn't make sense.
I have a
Blackview BV1000 and it has a internet browser and the reviews online are people saying how great the internet is on it, but when I try to use it, it just says unable to connect
Under internet settings I just have the options:
Data Account which if I click on it says data account Empty and doesnt allow me to add anything there. Thats pretty much the only thing I can see of any use, other than homepage etc.
thanks all in advance

The only network that doesn't have 2G support is Three. Everything else has 2, 3 and 4G support dependent on the device and the signal.
Your BV1000 seems to be a dual sim phone? normally on these the second sim is a 2G only network however that unit only appears to support internet access via WAP:

WAP was like a really old version of modern internet browsing which was stripped to the bone surfing. As phone speeds increased and they could handle full size web pages like your PC or desktop, WAP quickly fell out of favour.0 -

I'm not sure any network has supported WAP for years.0

Any SIM will work in any device First, you need to understand that any SIM be it 2G, 3G or 4G will work in any device. You can use a 4G SIM card in a 3G or 2G phone or a 2G or 3G SIM card in a 4G phone. Anything is possible.IT is one the most growing industry to work in0
