Shouldn't it be the normal case ? :)

We were so accustomed to see ludicrous housing price rise that now we started feeling this is abnormal :D
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
  • We have seen a 50% fall in properties coming to the market and in addition to this a 30% fall in sales. This will account for the dramatic fall.

Strange how the usual laws of supply and demand don't appear to be working.

This whole data thing is a bit contradictory and confusing.

Some people say that increases in sales shows a sign of a fall in the market as people are trying to offload their properties, whereas now people are claiming a slow down in sales is a sign of a drop in the market. It can't be both!!

And where does HIPS fit into this model? Didn't lots of people rush to put their property on the market to avoid paying for HIPS?!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Isn't an angry smilie an oxymoron?!?!

I'm a pedantic person. I was born pedantic. It's not angry smilie it's an angry avatar.

I'm only pedantic at work, but seeing as I'm still working, I thought an avatar was a represenation of a person or human form, and a "smilie" was a representation of an emotion?!?!

    :p

My belief is that the market isn't 'clearing', that is to say that demand has fallen (buyers aren't prepared to pay what they were for a given place) but supply has remained constant (sellers are holding out for a better price).

In this case, either demand must rise (as in 2005) or supply fall (people taking lower prices willingly or not as happened in the 90s) so the market can find a new equilibrium. Where we go from here is where it gets interesting.

My feeling is prices will drop but I've thought that for a long time and been consistently wrong!

Not only do I adore your tag line Generali but I really like your style of posting! :D It is so refreshing to see someone with background knowledge and intelligent discourse who is also very willing to be open-minded and admit to his own mistakes etc. I'm just keeping everything crossed you're right!

I like this post, I love the word equilibrium.

I think prices will drop a little, maybe 15% but hey what do i know i'm not in
    the clique ..
  • it seems as if the future for housing may be more about where you live rather than widespread prices and it looks as if some areas prices will differ from others it makes sense as to why they are always going on about locationlocationlocation and would explain why some people are experiencing price drops and some people are not
