Best Way to Deal with Eon

I am part of a new build complex in South London where Eon have a exclusivity contract, and I cannot switch. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for their pricing, service, and eagerness to pass on all costs to their customers.

To add some context, the complex their contract is for has had a network quality issue (grit, slit), as a result the ~1000 heat units they manage have required constant call outs for cleaning and regular part replacement. All of which has spiked their costs, which they pass on.

2016
7.06p/kwh price per unit
210.88 service charge

2019
9.58p/kwh price per unit
353.09 service charge

Local Home
3.68p/kwh price per unit
81.42 service charge

UC Increase: 36%
SC Increase: 68%

As you can see, we are paying over the odds already for our community, I am a bit tired of being mugged off. I considered campaigning with my neighbors but not sure if that will fix things. Any solutions?

Hello YoungGentry and it sounds like this is part of one of our Community Energy (Heat) schemes.

Heat schemes are where heating and hot water come from a district heating system supplied by an Energy Centre close to where you live. These accounts are looked after exclusively by a separate part of the business. This is our Heat Team and they aim to provide end to end services for customers with this type of set up. They're a self-contained team with their own accounting structure, complaints procedure and website.

I'd raise your concerns with this team. Contact details are on our website and your bills.

Sorry I can't help directly with this YoungGentry and hope this points you in the right direction.

I am an official company representative of E.ON. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. Its worth noting, that while people on 'traditional' energy tariffs pay a lot less than those on district heating schemes, they also have to pay for the supply and maintenance of their own heating systems (often in the form of a big bill shock when a boiler is condemned in the middle of winter).

That's not to say your rates for this particular site aren't excessive or the maintenance issues you've experienced unacceptable, I don't have the data, but hopefully you won't feel quite as hard done by when bearing that in mind.

It would still be worth looking into the contract between E.ON and the development as to whether these additional maintenance costs can be recovered from the end users.
