hello,
hoping someone can help me, needing to renew my passport and am unsure if i can use my walls as a background or if there is something i can use instead?
here lists the requirements but it mentions "be taken against a plain light-coloured background".
Would painted white anaglypta wallpaper counts as textured and thus unable to use? since moving all my walls are this (not my choice) are coloured or tiled. i assume i cant just hang a sheet up either? has anyone any experience in this or am i going to have to go via the old printed and posted photo booth method?
also i assume you still need someone to sign that you are who you say you are, does anyone have any ideas who i could use that wouldn't require a fee?
many thanks

A white sheet is probably a good bet if you have textured wallpaper. Alternatively I’m sure you could find a light coloured wall somewhere - office, friends house, leisure centre, shopping centre, there’s lots of opportunities. The online application has a thing to check if your photo meets the requirements before submitting, but plenty of people do use a phone against their wall.
If you’re renewing a passport and and are still recognisable from your old one then you don’t need to get it countersigned. If you did need it counter signed then any “upstanding member of the community” can do it, examples include priests, community group leaders, teachers, doctors, and basically anyone in a professional occupation who knows you.Save £12k in 2019 #360 -
Yes, a sheet will be fine as long as it has no folds or creases visible, just hang it over a door in the hallway or elsewhere with even lighting.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

To get the lighting right we hung a sheet on the washing line.0 -
I renewed my passport a couple of years ago and my wife has just done hers. We took photos of each other against a wall with textured surface painted in a cream colour. Both were accepted without any difficulties. I suggest that lighting is a more important consideration, as they won't accept shadows. We took our photos in natural light (middle of the day) and stood away from the wall to avoid this problem.
The worst that can happen is that the photo gets rejected and you have to retry. Their response time a couple of weeks ago was very quick, so unless you're in a desperate hurry adding a few days for a retry won't matter.0 -
You can get it it done in a photo booth which will give you a code to enter online. The textured background will be rejected. If you are using a sheet make sure it’s not white and it has been ironed0

Recently took a photo of my wife for her passport renewal using my mobile phone with a plain off white wall. The most important thing is too have good lighting, stand away from the wall to reduce shadowing (as per the online instructions) and this should also minimise the effect of the paper you have on your wall.
I used my Samsung Galaxy S7 which has quite a good camera and the picture was excellent.0
