How can I transfer a balance from a catalogue?

I have just tried to transfer the balance from my La Redoute mail order catalogue onto my Halifax One credit card but was told I am unable to do it because the account number is not a 16 digit number (!!!)

Does anyone know if there is a way to transfer the balance from a mail order catalogue? I owe just over £200 on the catalogue but want to clear it and stop paying interest each month, then I can cancel the account.

Thanks

  • I don't think you can do it as a balance transfer.

If your card is also 0% for purchases I think you should be able to pay off the whole bill using your Credit card as it will be treated as a purchase

I know I have paid catalogues off using a credit card before.

I personally hate La Redoute, messed up a load of my payments (I paid them online, on time), whacked on a load of charges and then blamed my bank so I would definitely close your account with them, lol
  • My card is coming to the end of it's 0% offer life so I will be transferring it soon anyway so I will look for one that offers 0% on purchases as well. Thanks for the tip.

I've not really had any trouble with La Redoute it's just that I decided to close the account to save money as it's too easy to spend on mail order items and there's nothing in the catalogue that I can't get in the high street.

    Cheers

  • Any of the MBNA family of cards can BT to a catalogue, can do household bills too! Can be difficult to find the correct account number though, for example British Gas have about 5 different references on a bill I believe, and only 1 will work!

MBNA cards will also do a transfer into your current account, allowing you to pay off whoever you like.
